Role of the Embassy
In accordance with the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations of 1961, the functions of a Malagasy diplomatic mission include:
a) Represent the Malagasy State in the receiving State;
b) Protect in the receiving State the interests of the Malagasy State and its nationals, within the limits permitted by international law;
c) Negotiate with the government of the receiving State;
d) Obtain information by all lawful means on the conditions and developments in the receiving State and report thereon to the Malagasy government;
e) Promote friendly relations and develop economic, cultural and scientific relations between Madagascar and the receiving State.
It is expected of a Malagasy diplomatic mission the roles of prospecting for partnerships, investments and all beneficial opportunities for Madagascar.
The Embassy of the Republic of Madagascar in New Dehli is placed under the authority of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. It manages and coordinates the various aspects of diplomatic and consular relations and is responsible for representing the interests of Madagascar with regard to cooperation in the political, social, economic, and sustainable development fields between the two countries ;
The Embassy embodies the extension of the implementation of "diplomacy in the service of development", by ensuring, through its diplomats and the various services that compose it, support for the sectoral policies defined by the Government and in harmony with today's globalized system.
The Embassy manages, in addition to cooperation with India, the various activities related to Consular Affairs, including the issuance of visas for Madagascar and files relating to civil status for Malagasy nationals.
The Permanent Representation is one of the most important diplomatic representations of Madagascar abroad, given the number of countries under its jurisdiction which is one of the largest.
